What Do Well Drillers Do?

Video Source

A water well driller is a man or woman who drills underground to access clean drinking water for homes and businesses. It is a career that deals with technical skills and hands-on dirty work. This video shows what one well driller does on a day-to-day basis, and why he loves what he does!

Water wells are needed for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Homes and businesses need clean drinking water, and industrial sites need water to operate machinery and for their workers to drink. A water well driller operates a large rig that drills deep into the ground to access clean water.

The water can be found at different levels underground and at varying qualities. The water well driller needs to test the water found at the different levels to find the cleanest and safest water possible. There are also earth flute technicians who work to provide heat and cooling to businesses and homes.

The driller’s day starts with driving to the worksite and having a safety meeting with the other workers. They then don their personal protection equipment, or PPE, and get to work. Throughout the day, the driller monitors the drill and the water that’s coming up. They need strength and stamina as well as mechanical aptitude to handle the rig.
